Job summary

GERVAIS SD 1 seeks a lead cook for its district food service operations. Responsibilities include supervising kitchen staff in absence of head cook, ensuring accurate handling of cash deposits, and following district policies.

A current Food Handler’s Card is required or obtainable. Preferred candidates have a high school diploma or culinary certificate, strong teamwork with administration, staff, and students, and the ability to work at any district location.

Qualifications

• Current Food Handler’s Card is required or ability to obtain one.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required; GED may be considered.
• Culinary certificate or equivalent desirable.
• Lead-level experience in production and/or satellite food service operations.
• Ability to work cooperatively with administration, staff, and students.
• Proven ability to lead and direct others in absence of head cook.
• First Aid knowledge or card as requested by supervisor.
• Receive, transmit, and carryout written and oral instructions in English.
• Adaptable, creative, and flexible in dealing with changes in routine.
• Familiarity with operation and maintenance of commercial food preparation equipment.
• Willingness to work at any location assigned.
• Board may consider alternatives to the above qualifications.

Job description

  • Due to the state and nationwide labor shortage, the district will consider applicants who do not meet the GED requirement. Candidates without a GED or high school diploma will not be eligible for promotions to another classification.
• Culinary certificate or equivalent is desirable;
• Lead-level experience in production and/or satellite food service operations;
• Proven ability to work cooperatively with administration, staff, and students;
• Proven ability to lead and direct others in absence of head cook;
• Receive, transmit, and carryout written, and oral instructions given in English;
• Add, subtract, and multiply accurately;
• Oversee accounting and deposits of cash receipts, according to District policy;
• Adaptable, creative, and flexible in dealing with changes in routine;
• Neat and clean in appearance;
• Prior experience with quantity cooking and baking procedures;
• Willingness to work at any location assigned;
• Familiarity with basic First Aid procedures;
• Have a First Aid card, as requested by supervisor;
• Seek solutions to problems;
• Familiarity with operation and maintenance of commercial food preparation equipment; and
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications, as the Board may find appropriate and
