Job summary

Riverwalk Communities is seeking a skilled Cook to prepare nutritious, diet-compliant meals for residents in our healthcare setting. You will work in a structured kitchen, follow standardized recipes and therapeutic diet orders, and take pride in meals residents look forward to each day.

You will handle breakfast through dinner, monitor temperatures per HACCP, and ensure accuracy of trays and dietary cards.

Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, institutional, or high-volume food service preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification required or must obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets and texture modifications preferred.
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and production schedules.
  • Stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook all meals including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks per the posted menu.
  • Follow therapeutic diet orders including low sodium, diabetic, renal, and texture-modified diets.
  • Prepare texture-modified foods including minced, pureed, and IDDSI-compliant items
  • Monitor and record food temperatures at all critical control points per HACCP guidelines
  • Portion and assemble resident trays accurately per diet cards and tray tickets
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen throughout the shift
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely including ovens, steamers, and slicers
  • Rotate and store food inventory using FIFO standards
  • Complete temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and production records
  • Communicate menu changes and substitutions to the dietary team promptly

Requirements
  • Prior cooking experience in a healthcare, institutional, or high-volume food service setting preferred
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification required or must obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets and texture modifications preferred — will train
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and production schedules
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work well under the time pressure of scheduled meal service
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
