Cook Overview & Responsibilities

The Cook provides hands-on production cooking in a community culinary program, maintaining high standards of quality, service, and cleanliness.

  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization standards.
  • Adhere to food quality, appearance, and presentation standards.
  • Produce and serve menu cycle programs compliant with nutritional and dietary criteria.
  • Cook efficiently with speed and accuracy.
  • Show knowledge in all areas of cooking preparation and production.
  • Visit residents to evaluate food service and make improvements.
  • Practice excellent customer service with residents, guests, and coworkers.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver all meals.
  • Maintain a sanitary work environment and comply with local codes.
  • Inspect storage and supply areas.
  • Complete administrative duties related to equipment and supplies.
  • Keep dining areas clean and orderly.
  • Obtain and maintain Serv Safe/Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Assist with diet changes and special diets per physician’s orders.
  • Prepare food for activities and events.
  • Interact tactfully and professionally with residents, families, and visitors.
  • Encourage teamwork and cooperation.
  • Support a professional image through actions and dress.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of restaurant or senior living cooking experience.
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and menus, including therapeutic diets.
  • Ability to make independent decisions.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • High personal integrity and genuine concern for older adults.
  • Must receive the annual Flu vaccine unless exempted for medical or religious reasons.
