Job summary

Windmoor Healthcare of Clearwater is seeking a PRN Cook to prepare and cook meals for patients and staff in a 144-bed psychiatric hospital setting. You will follow menus and recipes provided by the Dietician, assist in recipe development, and ensure high standards of food quality and sanitation.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of cooking experience, with preference for healthcare or behavioral health settings.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of cooking experience required, with fast-paced setting preferred.
• Basic knowledge of modified diets, serving principles, and sanitation.
• Prior kitchen supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food for patients and staff according to menu and recipes.
• Assist in recipe development and communicate with Dietician as needed.
• Maintain high food quality and a clean, safe workspace; follow all safety procedures.

Skills

We are pleased to announce the following available position:

COOK – PRN – Various 8 hr. Shifts

Responsible to properly and safely prepare and cook food for patients and staff according to the menu and recipes provided by the Dietician and assist in recipe development. Maintain high food and service quality. Work with Facility Director/Manager regarding appropriate usage of leftovers; menu changes and substitutions. Assist Director in preparation of special employee and/or catering functions. Follows all standardized procedures and maintains a safe and sanitized work area. Able to effectively and safely utilize kitchen tools, appliances and equipment.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

Education: High school graduate or equivalent OR relative work experience

Experience: Two (2) years’ cooking experience required with prior experience as a cook in a fast paced setting; experience in a healthcare facility and/or behavioral healthcare setting strongly preferred. Industrial food preparation experience preferred. Basic knowledge of modified diets, serving principles and training in food services sanitation needed. Safe Serve certification preferred. Prior kitchen supervisory experience preferred.

Additional Requirements: Must be able to prioritize workload and effectively multi-task in a fast paced environment. Excellent food preparation and presentation skills. Able to effectively communicate, prioritize tasks and demonstrate flexibility, with strong focus on safety and quality.

Physical Requirements

Move efficiently enough to meet the needs of several patients and/or move rapidly to provide timely intervention of patient aggression. Able to stand, sit or walk during work shift. Able to hear spoken words in a normal vocal range, respond to signals, alarms, codes or other displays. Recognize vocal intonation that signal changes in acuity. Able to bend, reach and stoop. Able to accurately follow instructions and convey information. Able to read instructions and complete any needed documentation and/or reports. Perform duties requiring manual dexterity. Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
