Job summary

A leading senior living community is seeking a part-time Cook to join their team. The Cook will be responsible for preparing and serving meals while adhering to health and safety regulations. Ideal candidates will have at least one year of cooking experience, preferably in the retirement home industry, and possess strong communication and teamwork skills.

We are excited to announce that we are hosting Open Interviews every Wednesday! Join us to explore a variety of in-demand careers with representatives from each department, all in one location.

When: Every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Location: 1324 Cedar Road, Chesapeake VA 23322

Position: Cook

The Cook will prepare, present, store, and dispatch all food products, including dining room, bistro, marketing, catering events, and resident tray service. Responsibilities include adhering to menu specifications, health and safety regulations, and maintaining high standards of food quality and sanitation.

Shift Details

Part-Time, variable days and times; every other weekend morning shifts required.

Job Duties
  1. Prepare and serve menu items according to departmental policies.
  2. Ensure presentation and quality of meals meet established standards.
  3. Prepare meals based on menus, nutritional programs, and individual plans.
  4. Maintain food safety and sanitation standards.
  5. Work efficiently and at a consistent pace.
  6. Ensure timely meal preparation and proper portioning.
  7. Meet dietary requirements for residents.
  8. Utilize kitchen equipment properly.
  9. Stay productive and prepare for future needs.
  10. Fill open shifts as needed, demonstrating flexibility.
  11. Follow safety and health regulations, including accident reporting.
  12. Manage inventory and assist in training new employees.
  13. Serve food at proper temperatures and portion sizes.
  14. Report policy infractions and arrive punctually.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  1. Minimum 1 year of cooking experience.
  2. Experience in the retirement home industry preferred.
  3. Knowledge of food trends, sanitation, and food cost controls.
  4. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  5. Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  6. Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and email.
  7. Attention to detail and strong time management.
  8. Problem-solving skills and a positive work ethic.
