Position Overview

B2U is seeking a COO/Senior Operations Manager to lead and oversee day-to-day operations supporting B2U’s BESS projects and Lancaster operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring operational execution, quality, safety, vendor performance, project readiness, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate is a strong operator who can build processes and structure while also being willing to get into the field, work alongside the team, troubleshoot issues, and drive projects forward. This person will work closely with Engineering, Project Development, Procurement, vendors, contractors, and executive leadership.

Responsibilities

Operations Leadership

• Lead and manage day-to-day operations from B2U’s Lancaster, CA operations hub.
• Provide hands-on leadership and direction to operations, field, assembly, and construction teams.
• Establish clear priorities, workflows, processes, and accountability across operations.
• Be actively involved in field and operational activities, troubleshooting issues and helping the team resolve problems quickly.
• Coordinate operational activities to support B2U’s BESS deployments, installations, commissioning, and ongoing operations.
• Partner closely with Engineering to ensure projects are operationally ready and engineering requirements are successfully implemented.
• Develop and maintain operational schedules, resource plans, and project milestones.
• Identify operational risks and develop solutions to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Continuously evaluate processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, safety, and scalability.

Quality Assurance & Quality Control

• Own and oversee Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) processes across operations, assembly, construction, and deployment.
• Establish quality standards, inspection processes, checklists, and documentation requirements.
• Ensure equipment, materials, components, and completed work meet B2U’s quality standards and specifications.
• Partner with Engineering and vendors to identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective actions.
• Track quality issues, defects, rework, and corrective actions and communicate trends to leadership.
• Conduct or oversee inspections and operational quality reviews.
• Develop a culture of accountability and continuous improvement around quality.
• Ensure appropriate documentation and records are maintained for operational and quality activities.
• Oversee relationships with key vendors, contractors, and service providers supporting B2U operations.
• Manage vendor performance, schedules, deliverables, quality, costs, and accountability.
• Establish clear expectations, scopes of work, timelines, and performance standards for vendors and contractors.
• Monitor vendor compliance with B2U safety, quality, operational, and documentation
• Identify and resolve vendor performance issues and escalade significant concerns when necessary.
• Develop and maintain a reliable network of vendors and contractors to support B2U’s growth and project requirements.
• Evaluate new vendors and service providers as operational needs expand.
• Technology & Operations Systems
• Utilize relevant operations, project management, inventory, procurement, quality management, and reporting software to manage and track operational activities.
• Maintain accurate operational data, schedules, project documentation, inventory records, vendor information, and QA/QC records within applicable systems.
• Use data and reporting tools to monitor operational performance, identify trends, and support decision-making.
• Develop and maintain dashboards, trackers, reports, and other tools that provide leadership with visibility into project and operational performance.
• Identify opportunities to automate or improve operational processes through technology and software.
• Learn and adapt to new software platforms and technology as B2U’s operational needs evolve.
• Ensure the operations team and vendors are appropriately trained on relevant systems and technology.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure operational activities are conducted in accordance with B2U safety standards, applicable regulations, and project requirements.
• Partner with Engineering and leadership to identify and mitigate operational and field risks.
• Establish and enforce safe work practices across the operations team and vendor/contractor workforce.
• Ensure appropriate safety training, documentation, and procedures are maintained.
• Set clear performance expectations and provide regular coaching and feedback.
• Help build the operational organization as B2U scales its BESS deployments.
• Work directly alongside team members when needed to solve problems, improve processes, and meet project deadlines.
• Partner with HR and leadership on hiring, onboarding, performance management, and workforce planning.

• Strong operations leadership and people management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to be a hands-on leader who is comfortable working in the field and directly supporting operations.
• Experience managing vendors, contractors, and external service providers.
• Strong understanding of quality assurance and quality control processes.
• Strong project management, scheduling, cost control, and risk management skills.
• Experience using project management, operations, inventory, procurement, quality, reporting, and collaboration software.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office. particularly Excel/Sheets, for operational tracking and reporting.
• Ability to effectively utilize new software platforms and technology.
• Strong analytical and data management skills with the ability to turn operational data into actionable insights.
