Job summary

Sims Limited in Baltimore, MD is seeking a Welder Mechanic to perform maintenance, welding, fabrication, and repairs on conveyor systems and industrial equipment at our scrap metal recycling facility.

The role requires strong MIG/Stick welding, mechanical troubleshooting, and experience with conveyors, bearings, pulleys, gearboxes, and motors. This hands-on position emphasizes safety, reading drawings, and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of welding, mechanical maintenance, or industrial maintenance experience.
• Strong MIG and Stick welding skills.
• Experience maintaining and repairing industrial conveyor systems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with bearings, rollers, pulleys, gearboxes, motors, chains, and shafts.
• Ability to use torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and common fabrication tools.
• Welding and fabrication experience with heavy-gauge steel.
• Experience in a scrap yard, recycling facility, aggregate operation, steel mill, manufacturing plant, mining operation, or other heavy industrial environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on conveyor systems, rollers, bearings, pulleys, shafts, gearboxes, motors, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot conveyor breakdowns and mechanical failures to minimize downtime.
• Perform MIG and Stick welding on structural steel and industrial equipment.
• Fabricate, modify, and repair chutes, guards, brackets, frames, platforms, and other steel components.
• Replace and repair conveyor belts, rollers, bearings, sprockets, chains, and related components.
• Perform cutting, grinding, fitting, and metal fabrication.
• Use oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and other fabrication equipment safely.
• Perform preventive maintenance and equipment inspections.
• Identify worn or damaged components before they result in equipment failure.
• Assist with repairs and maintenance on other scrap-processing and industrial equipment as needed.
• Read measurements, drawings, and basic fabrication layouts.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper lockout/tagout practices.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
