Job summary

Sims Metal in Baltimore, MD is seeking a Welder Mechanic to perform maintenance, welding, fabrication, and repairs on conveyor systems and industrial equipment at our scrap metal recycling facility.

This hands-on role requires MIG/Stick welding, mechanical troubleshooting, and conveyor maintenance experience to minimize downtime. 3+ years in welding/maintenance is preferred; ability to work overtime and outdoors is needed. Competitive pay and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of welding or industrial maintenance experience.
• Strong MIG and Stick welding skills.
• Experience maintaining and repairing conveyor systems.
• Ability to read measurements and basic fabrication layouts.
• Comfortable working outdoors and around heavy industrial equipment.
• Ability to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on conveyor systems, rollers, bearings, pulleys, shafts, gearboxes, motors, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot conveyor breakdowns and mechanical failures to minimize downtime.
• Perform MIG and Stick welding on structural steel and industrial equipment.
• Fabricate, modify, and repair chutes, guards, brackets, frames, platforms, and other steel components.
• Replace and repair conveyor belts, rollers, bearings, sprockets, chains, and related components.
• Perform cutting, grinding, fitting, and metal fabrication.
• Use oxy‑fuel torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and other fabrication equipment safely.
• Perform preventive maintenance and equipment inspections.
• Identify worn or damaged components before they result in equipment failure.
• Assist with repairs and maintenance on other scrap‑processing and industrial equipment as needed.
• Read measurements, drawings, and basic fabrication layouts.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper lockout/tagout practices.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
