Us Display Group in Dover, DE is seeking a Converting Supervisor to lead 2–30 staff in producing quality corrugated products safely and efficiently. You will oversee day-to-day operations, safety, quality, waste, and productivity, coordinating workflow and controlling costs, with budget responsibility for the Production department.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of manufacturing leadership, strong safety focus, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressively more responsible operations leadership experience within a manufacturing company.
  • Experience leading an operational function at a manufacturing site or significant operation.
  • Background in safety, operations and business with financial and process acumen.
  • Previous experience in corrugated, paper or similar manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain quality, efficiencies, and production levels set by management.
  • Report quality concerns to Converting Superintendent and assist in defining guidelines.
  • Maintain morale by fairness, consistency, and addressing employee problems.
  • Maintain inventories of sheets, inks, and other converting supplies.
  • Coordinate with supervisor and Maintenance on repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Keep upper management informed of problems affecting performance.
  • Enforce corrective action procedures and conduct meetings with staff and union representatives.
  • Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with department personnel.
  • Communicate with supervision to avoid issues between shift changes.
  • Encourage career skill growth through seminars, courses, and related college programs.
  • Implement and support all company policies, including safety, union contract, and housekeeping.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.

The Converting Supervisor will report directly to the appropriate Superintendent. They will supervise approximately 2 – 30 people in the daily routine of producing quality corrugated products safely and productively with minimum waste. Cross-train employees in key positions.

Position Details:

This position has responsibility for all day-to-day manufacturing operations including safety, quality, waste productivity, and occasional planning and/or shipping associated with the facility or facilities within the span of control. The position contributes to achieving the plant’s sales objectives through the coordination of workflow and product quality. Ultimately, this position has budgetary responsibility for the Production department including maximizing efficiency and appropriate cost control initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain quality, efficiencies, and production levels set by management. Communicate these standards to your staff.
  • Report quality concerns to Converting Superintendent. Assist in determining quality guidelines.
  • Establish high morale within your department by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems. Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain inventories of sheets, inks, and other converting supplies.
  • Coordinate with your supervisor and Maintenance on any repairs or preventive maintenance done in the department.
  • Keep upper management informed of problems or situations that may affect your department’s performance.
  • Enforce the corrective action procedures when applicable and conduct meetings with the violating employees and union representatives.
  • Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.
  • Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
  • Improve career skills by enrolling yourself in seminars, technical courses, and related college courses.
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including union contract, safety program, and good housekeeping.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises all employees assigned to the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; conflict resolution; team building; coaching and leading employees to improve; addressing complaints and resolving problems; documentation; and setting an example of superior behavior, attitude, and performance.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible operations leadership experience within a manufacturing company. The ideal candidate will have led an operational function at a manufacturing site or significant operation within the facility. In addition, they will have ideally had previous experience managing a group of employees or project team. Therefore, they must possess a strong safety, operations and business background. The successful incumbent will have financial and process acumen, be results-driven and possess strong communications skills. This business leader will have proven management experience with a previous background in corrugated, paper or similar manufacturing environments.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly (10 hours or more) required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

Education, Training, Certifications

High school diploma or GED. Four years prior supervisory experience. Prior work experience in the corrugated industry is strongly preferred but not required.
