Job description

JOB TITLE: Conventional Generation Project Sr Mgr

REQUISITION: DEV000E

DEPARTMENT: Generation Development

LOCATION: Northwest Missouri

PAY GRADE: $126,200 - $168,200 - $210,300

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Director Conventional Generation Projects, the candidate has overall responsibility for the management of projects to construct combined cycle and simple cycle conventional generation units. The projects will be complex, multi-billion-dollar capital projects with multi-year timeframes that span diverse disciplines. The candidate will provide support and project management from project origination through commercial operation. The candidate will represent Evergy's and the project's interests by facilitating navigation through a matrixed stakeholder environment and regularly providing formal and informal project communications to numerous internal and external stakeholders.

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Project Management: Overseeing the entire lifecycle of complex, multi- billion-dollar capital projects, from origination to commercial operation.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Navigating a matrixed stakeholder environment, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Oversight: Managing the technical aspects of constructing combined cycle and simple cycle conventional generation units, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Budget Management: Developing and managing project budgets, ensuring financial targets are met and resources are allocated efficiently.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks throughout the project lifecycle to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all projects comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Reporting: Providing regular formal and informal project updates to stakeholders, including progress reports, financial status, and risk assessments.
  • Team Leadership: Leading and mentoring project teams, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Contract Management: Overseeing contracts with vendors, suppliers, and contractors, ensuring all terms and conditions are met.
  • Quality Assurance: Implementing quality control measures to ensure project deliverables meet the required standards.
Education and Experience:
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, finance or other related field is highly preferred for this position.
  • At least five years dedicated large-scale project management experience working on projects that are several million in size and span several years is required.
  • Project leaders that have a diverse background working with multiple vendors, internal stakeholders and counterparties are preferred.
  • A PMP designation is encouraged but not required.
  • Individuals with less than five years of dedicated project management experience may be considered if they possess experience and capability in related disciplines with a proven track record of success.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Project tracking and controls including familiarity with project budgets, cost tracking systems and critical path, logic-linked project schedules.
  • Creating business case justifications, procurement plans and write contract scopes of work for moderate scale material, equipment and labor procurements utilizing existing and new contracts and suppliers.
  • Ability to work with limited oversight at times and create forward momentum on behalf of Evergy's renewables efforts.
  • Understanding of the changing energy landscape and new conventional generation resources.
  • Ability to influence others and to set clear expectations and hold others accountable.
  • Ability to make decisions with limited information, non-routine or unexpected judgments and process information in an organized, timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; including ability to make detailed presentations to external parties, craft workers, and senior leadership
  • Lead project meetings and develop task schedules, deadlines, and milestones for all stakeholders and resources. Constantly monitor and report on the progress of projects to stakeholders and management.
  • High business acumen with an ability to understand and identify opportunities that will provide maximum benefit. Experience developing business cases and cost/benefit analyses.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Testing:

Successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Working Conditions:

Combined office and construction site working conditions during the preliminary and engineering stages of the project. Full on-site field/construction site working conditions during construction and commissioning stages of the project. Travel will be required in support of development of convention generation projects. Additional overnight travel will be required. The applicant must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
