Job summary

Goochland County is seeking a Part-Time Attendant to monitor the activities at the County’s Convenience Center and assist the public with trash and recyclables disposal. This position requires weekend work and approximately 25 hours per week with no benefits.

Responsibilities include directing the public, maintaining a clean site, operating disposal equipment, and coordinating waste and recycling activities. A valid Virginia driver's license and the ability to perform physical labor are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in the operations of a Convenience Center preferred.
• Valid Virginia Driver's License required.
• Criminal background check and drug screen required.
• Ability to lift 50–100 pounds and perform physical labor in various conditions.

Job description

Goochland County is accepting applications for a Part-Time Attendant to monitor the activities of the Convenience Center by assisting the public in disposing of trash and recyclables. This is a part-time position with no benefits working approximately 25 hours per week, to include required weekends.

Criminal Background check and drug screen are required.

Directs public to appropriate areas and advises of safe disposal techniques. Maintains the site in clean and neat order; includes grass cutting, weed eating, and landscaping. Schedules the switching of open top containers and compactors. Controls traffic to facilitate the movement of vehicles in a safe and timely manner.

Coordinates disposal of waste and recycling through Convenience Centers. Performs other duties as assigned.

Some knowledge of solid waste regulations, principles, and practices of a Convenience Center. Demonstrated ability to use, or learn how to use, disposal equipment, backhoe, compactors, zero turn lawnmower, blower, and weed trimmer. Must possess excellent customer service skills to maintain effective working relationships with contractors and the general public. Ability to use a computer and related software packages. Ability to report to work on bad weather days, unless facility is closed. Must be able to perform physical labor in extreme temperatures and conditions for extended periods of time. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, and move 50 to 100 pounds and to climb, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends.
