Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a technician to assist with skilled electrical and control system work. The role involves locating and repairing defects, assisting with testing and data collection, and supporting engineering layouts for installations and maintenance at Amos Plant and other facilities.

Travel up to 30% may be required; applicants should have related education or military experience and be able to read simple prints and schematics.

Qualifications

• Two year Associate degree in electronics or equivalent, or high school diploma with two+ years military experience or five+ years related industrial electrical/controls experience.
• Ability to read, interpret and work from simple prints, sketches and specifications.
• Must have a valid State driver’s license and the ability to meet physical demands described in the job posting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in locating and repairing defects in control systems involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components, using diagrams.
• Assist in checks, repairs and adjustments of low and medium voltage circuit breakers and related electrical control systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment such as batteries, motors, compressed air systems, forklifts, and electric heaters.
• Record data, assist in tests and prepare reports, graphs and curves; compile data for projects and inspections; ensure compliance with standards.

Education

Two year Associates degree in electronics or a qualifying Engineering or Science, or high school diploma with two or more years of related military experience, or a high school diploma 5 or more years of related industrial technical electrical or controls experience
