Job Summary:

We have an opening for a full-time, Building Automation Controls Technician II at our New York / New Jersey branch office. The Technician II is responsible for the overall startup, testing/commissioning, documenting of construction projects, and facilitating the timely turnover to the client and the service team. The Technician II will report directly to a team project manager and work closely with the design engineer to ensure they have the tools necessary to be successful on each project. The Technician II will work professionally with both internal and external clients and will have the ability to be a leader within the company.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Startup and testing of building automation systems.
  • Working directly with clients and subcontractors to facilitate the installation of designed control systems.
  • Develops systematic planning for complete startup of systems and turnover to the service team. Responsible for complete documentation of the startup process for the system.
  • Responsible for communicating with the project manager and client to assist in the effective completion of the project.
  • Takes initiative to find solutions.
  • Motivates others to perform better.
  • Offers and implements ideas for greater efficiency.
  • Provides client training on systems.
  • Coordinates the punch-out of front-end systems.
  • Interfaces with Electrician on coordination items.
  • Drives project schedule for efficient completion.
  • Documents tested points and wiring runs.
  • Performs startup/testing of terminal unit and air handling unit controllers, as well as central plant controllers (HW Systems, CHW Systems, and CW Systems).
  • Communicates directives to electrical subcontractors for proper installation of control components.
  • Interfaces with third-party manufacturer controls.
  • Reads wiring diagrams to determine proper terminations to mechanical equipment.
  • Terminates and troubleshoots wiring and system components.
  • Creates software points in controllers.
  • Tests automatic programming sequences.
  • Maintains weekly reports on project progress and open items.
  • Demonstrates front-end graphics and operability to clients and commissioning agents.
  • Enforces safety standards consistently.
Qualifications:

We seek a candidate with previous technician experience in the controls industry, preferably with Delta Controls systems.

  • Deep knowledge of mechanical systems and sequences of operations.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical design documents (duct layouts, piping schematics, riser diagrams).
  • Ability to read manufacturer's wiring diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with interfacing third-party devices.
  • High-quality work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Leadership qualities among peers.
  • Positive representation of the company.
  • Drive to exceed client expectations (internal and external).
  • Experience: 2-4+ years as a DDC Technician.
  • Education: High School or GED required; an Associate’s degree in HVAC or Control Systems, or equivalent experience.

Pay range: $30 - $40 per hour.
