Job summary

gpac is seeking a hands-on Controls Technician for a day shift in the Far Rockaway area of NY. The role involves maintaining and improving high-volume production equipment with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including PLC-controlled systems in a food manufacturing setting.

The ideal candidate will handle preventive maintenance, machine changeovers, and support for both modern and legacy equipment, while ensuring safety and GMP compliance.

Qualifications

• Industrial maintenance experience in food manufacturing or similar high-volume environment.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled machinery and diagnosing faults.
• Experience with electrical systems up to 480V.
• Experience maintaining packaging and conveying equipment.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production equipment including molding, foil handling, packaging, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, motors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Diagnose electrical and control system issues on PLC-controlled machinery.
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance to maximize uptime.
• Troubleshoot sensors, photo eyes, VFDs, relays, motor starters, and control circuits.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Assist with PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) to identify faults and support production.
• Support machine changeovers and equipment setup.
• Work on legacy European production machinery and newer automated equipment.
• Coordinate with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime.
• Maintain maintenance records and spare parts inventory.
• Ensure work complies with food safety, GMP, OSHA, and company standards.
