Southland Industries in Houston, TX is seeking a Controls Technician to join our construction team to start up, troubleshoot, commission and service DDC building automation systems for large commercial HVAC projects.
Responsibilities include interpreting control drawings, testing programs, point‑to‑point checkout, on‑site startup and commissioning, and using hand tools and test equipment. A strong HVAC knowledge base and problem‑solving skills are essential.
The Controls Technician is responsible for working as part of a construction team to start up, troubleshoot, commission and service DDC building automation systems for large commercial HVAC systems.
Commission, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC projects.
Interpret control drawings, plan and specifications to test program.
Point to point checkout, startup, and commissioning on assigned projects.
Utilize hand tools, laptop, and test equipment on site.
Analyze problems and resolve issues to ensure overall system functions properly.
Two years technical degree preferred but not required
Must have 2 to 5 years experience with DDC applications, strong troubleshooting skills and HVAC equipment knowledge
Demonstrated expertise in HVAC control systems and facilities management platforms, including site preparation, installation, and servicing of peripheral equipment. Skilled in deploying and maintaining building automation systems, with hands-on experience in TAC and/or Johnson Controls technologies.
Strong computer skills required as well as some basic network knowledge. Knowledge of Microsoft office programs such as Visio, Word, and Excel preferred
Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Southland Industries in an ethical and professional manner
Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people
Project management experience preferred
Clean driving record required
