Job summary

Nikon SLM Solutions is seeking a Control System Engineer in the United States to serve as the bridge between control/software development and the Service team. You will guide field service, oversee troubleshooting at the control level, and collaborate with the development team on design modifications.

The role emphasizes continuous improvement, feasibility checks for control upgrades, and creating tailored solutions within local regulatory constraints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechatronics, electrical engineering, automation technology or a comparable subject.
  • 3+ years of system design experience in highly complex control systems in industrial/automotive/medical/aerospace sectors.
  • 3+ years as PLC Developer and Automation Designer (m/f/d).
  • Solid knowledge of automation and control technology and electro-mechanical components.
  • Good knowledge of PLC programming tools and languages (Siemens TIA Portal, Schneider, SCL/ST, CoDeSys).
  • Good knowledge of drive systems and network protocols (TCP, UDP).
  • Familiarity with P&IDs, wiring diagrams, pneumatic systems and system requirements.
  • Experience submitting bug reports and deep troubleshooting to find root causes.
  • Excellent electrical engineering and construction knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Be the first point of contact for Service team for the assigned fleet.
  • Guide Field Service in troubleshooting by analysis at Controls System level and on machines in the fleet.
  • Define proposals for issue resolution involving the development team for design modifications.
  • Drive continuous improvement by feeding feedback to the development team.
  • Support training for service personnel on Control System of SLM machinery.
  • Feasibility check for fulfillment of machine controls upgrade requests.
  • Design customized solutions for applications within local regulatory constraints.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Control System Engineer represents the link between the control and software development teams on one side and the Service team on the other side.

The Control System Engineer is responsible for:
  • Be the first point of contact for Service team for the assigned fleet
  • Guidance for Field Service in trouble shootings by analysis at Controls System level as well as direct service at machines in assigned fleet
  • Define proposal for issue resolution involving development team for design modifications
  • Be a driver of continuous improvement feeding with feedback the development team
  • Support Training for service personnel for Control System of SLM machinery
  • Feasibility check for fulfillment of SLM machine controls upgrade requests
  • Design customized solution for application subjected to specific local regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechatronics engineering, electrical engineering, automation technology or a comparable subject
  • 3+ years of experience in system design in highly complex control systems in the industrial, automotive, medical or aerospace sectors
  • 3+ years of professional experience as PLC Developer and Automation Designer (m/f/d)
  • Solid knowledge of automation and control technology as well as of electro-mechanical components
  • Good Knowledge of PLC programming tools and languages (Siemens TIA Portal, Schneider, SCL/ST, CoDeSys)
  • Good Knowledge of drive systems.
  • Good Knowledge of network protocols (TCP, UDP) and related tools (e.g. wireshark) might be useful as well.
  • Familiarity with P&IDs, wiring diagrams, pneumatic systems and system requirements.
  • Experience in submitting bug reports and willingness to dig deep into problems to determine the root cause.
  • Good knowledge of electrical engineering and electrical construction
  • Good communication skills
