Job summary

TGW Systems Inc. in Grand Rapids, MI, seeks a Controls SCADA Team Lead to design, develop, and commission visualization systems for material-handling solutions and production lines.

This role requires leadership of a SCADA controls engineering team and close collaboration with the Manager of Controls Commissioning. You will guide design-to-production lifecycles, write and debug HMI applications, and perform emulation testing to ensure performance before on-site commissioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Controls-related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Five+ years of hands-on controls engineering experience in material-handling or warehouse environments.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of SCADA controls engineers, including scheduling and performance management.
  • Designs and commissions control visualization systems using PLCs to meet project needs.
  • Writes and debugs HMI applications for reliable control systems.
  • Performs in-house emulation testing to verify performance before onsite commissioning.
  • Provides installed-system support and planned upgrades.
  • Documents SCADA activities and maintains project records.
  • Travels to projects domestically and internationally.

Job description

The Controls SCADA Team Lead works with a team of SCADA Controls engineers to design and integratecontrols systems Visualizations for industrial material-handling solutions and production lines. This position works closely with the other Controls Team Leads and reports to the Manager of Controls Commissioning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Guides team of SCADA Controls Engineers and performs supervisory tasks including scheduling, review and approval of timecards, time-off requests, expense reports, and performance management activities (with support of manager).
  • Leads the design, development, and commissioning of control Visualization systems using PLCs to meet project requirements.
  • Writes and debugs HMI applications to ensure proper functioning of control systems.
  • Conducts in-house emulation testing to verify system performance and troubleshoot any issues that arise prior to Controls Commissioning going onsite for commissioning.
  • Provides support for installed systems, performing preventative maintenance and implementing system upgrades as required.
  • Creates and maintains documentation of controls SCADA activities.
  • Travels to projects both domestically and internationally.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Controls-related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science) or equivalent work experience.

Experience: Five (5) or more years of hands-on Controls Engineering experience, preferably in material-handling, industrial, or warehouse environment.

Travel: Up to 20% travel, domestically and internationally

Skills & Abilities
  • Robust knowledge of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, with the ability to read edrawings and AutoCAD drawings.
  • Prior experience in formal or informal leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience working on full design-to-production project lifecycles.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial automation and control systems.
  • Knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal and C++ or other programming language a bonus.
  • Knowledge of Visualization Systems, Examples: Ignition, WinCC
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk around industrial and/or warehouse environment for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices.
  • Visual and auditory abilities to work safely with and around moving and/or motorized equipment, machinery, parts, and electricity that require safety protocols
  • Ability to move and use muscles for extended periods of time without fatigue.
  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
  • Ability to communicate regularly with others verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
