Controls Field Engineer

Job Overview

The Field Engineering Specialist is responsible for providing technical leadership for assigned projects, working closely with controls project management, engineering, and controls technicians from development through closeout while mentoring associates. Oversight of all programming, checkout, and commissioning tasks is integral to this role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Project Development Phase:

    • Provide feedback to the controls engineering group during controls submittal development.
    • Review and provide feedback for sequence of operations during the engineering phase to ensure compatibility with current programming standards.
    • Use familiarity with mechanical systems to assist the engineering team in identifying potential design issues.
  • Installation/Start‑up Phase:

    • Create and/or oversee the creation of program site databases, graphics, and associated programming.
    • Participate in project turnover to the project manager after controls submittal finalization.
    • Provide technical assistance to the installation team on assigned projects as required.
    • Assist in scheduling, organizing, and dispatching Controls Technicians on assigned projects.
  • Configuring & Calibration:

    • Direct configuration, setup, and calibration of factory or field‑installed equipment, ensuring proper completion of quality control documentation.
  • Mentor & Technical Resource:

    • Act as primary mentor for all field personnel through the duration of assigned projects, analyzing and diagnosing BAS and system issues.
  • Closeout Phase:
    • Oversee or perform internal commissioning for assigned projects.
    • Represent Brady during third‑party commissioning as required.
    • Work with project manager to compile final project documentation and redlines for as‑built generation.
    • Ensure project database and graphics database are backed up to network drive at completion.
    • Provide remote access information for sites to Virtual Service.
    • Represent company by serving as a direct customer contact, developing, maintaining, and enhancing customer relationships.
    • Provide on‑site owner training classes for customers.
  • General Duties:
    • Collaborate with all associates to uphold the company’s mission and values.
    • Seek out training and mentoring opportunities for other controls associates.
    • Participate in Field Technician recruitment.
    • Travel up to 10% of the time.
    • Work overtime, weekends, and on‑call periods as required.
    • Evaluate area safety needs and provide feedback and recommendations to service technicians, assisting in implementation of safety policies and training.
    • Adhere to company safety guidelines.
Working Hours

Monday thru Friday, with overtime and weekends as required and some travel.

Physical Demands & Environmental Exposure

The position includes occasional sitting; frequent stooping, crouching, kneeling, balancing, climbing, and constant standing, walking, reaching, and gripping. Materials may be lifted up to 75 lbs. on occasion, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 25 lbs. constantly. This is a very heavy physical demand classification (PDC). The role requires talking and hearing. Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work is outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, and may involve extreme weather. Exposure includes moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather, electrical shock, vibration, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and heat, and loud noise levels.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school in HVAC, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of installation, programming, and commissioning HVAC controls systems experience.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC products, systems, electronics, and pneumatic controls.
  • Pass drug screening and prove U.S. employment eligibility.
  • Valid driver’s license.
