Job summary

Prysmian USA in Windham, CT is seeking a Controls Engineer to support production equipment with PLC programming, CAD design, and Wonderware experience. The role focuses on maintaining and improving wire and cable manufacturing systems.

The ideal candidate has a BA/AS in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years of manufacturing experience, with strong problem solving, project management, and collaborative skills to work with maintenance teams and external engineering vendors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related field; associate degree acceptable.
• Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience; wire and cable experience desirable.
• Proficient in PLC programming and CAD; experience with Wonderware a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain knowledge of wire and cable equipment and processes.
• Provide engineering support to maintenance for electrical/electronic equipment.
• Manage projects including cost estimates, designs, procurement, installation, startup, cost control, safety and implementations.
• Coordinate with outside electrical engineering, construction and consulting firms.
• Oversee outsourced repairs of critical electronic components.
• Assist the Engineering & Maintenance Manager with annual capital and expense budget prep.
• Develop, write, and debug control logic for machine control; modify designs as needed.
• Analyze electrical schematics to component level for repairs.
• Utilize programming devices to analyze PLC programs for failures or improvements.
• Direct electricians in troubleshooting, repair and programming of AC/DC drive systems.
• Troubleshoot with current tech including electrical test equipment and computer diagnostics.
• Maintain backups and ensure network communications understanding.

Everyone at Prysmian has the potential to make their mark; because whatever you do, wherever you are based, you will be part of a company that is helping transform the world around us.Controls Engineer is responsible for all PLC and computer software supporting production equipment.Responsibilities:Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of wire and cable equipment and processes.Provide engineering support and direction to the maintenance department for maintaining electrical and electronic equipment.Manage assigned projects which includes cost estimations, designs, specifications, approvals, procurement, installation, startup, cost control, safety and overall implementations.Manage outside electrical engineering, construction and consulting firms.Manage outsourced repairs of critical electronic components.Assist the Engineering & Maintenance Manager with the preparation of the annual capital and expense budget for management review.Develop, write, and de-bug control logic for machine control, make design modifications and improvements to complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment.Analyze and interpret electrical schematics to the component level as required to make repairs and return equipment to operation.Utilize programming devices to analyze PLC programs for failures or improvements.Provide direction to electricians in troubleshooting, repair and program AC/DC drive systems.Troubleshoot issues utilizing current technology including electrical test equipment and computer diagnosis equipment.Members and that sufficient back-up copies are maintained in a safe location.Implement, maintain and have a complete understanding of network communications.Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or an Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronics preferred.Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing (wire & cable experience highly desirable).Advanced computer skills required including PLC programming and CAD.
