Job summary

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering, Inc. in Reston, VA seeks a Controls Engineer to design, install and commission control systems for diverse clients. You will develop wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and sequence of operation documents, and lead design reviews with customers.

The role involves field startup, system training, and working across manufacturing and data-center environments. Travel up to 50% is required; strong AutoCAD and PLC experience are essential.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience in control systems, instrumentation and PLC design.
• Experience with AutoCAD and electrical schematics is desired.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with customers, contractors and teams.
• Ability to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement control systems (logic and hardware) to meet process requirements.
• Create schematics and wiring layouts; design equipment panels in AutoCAD.
• Develop sequence of operation documents and lead design reviews with customers.
• Perform system checkout and start-up at customer sites; train customers on systems.
• Lead automation and control projects; act as project manager on smaller projects.
• Manage purchasing, subcontractors, and cost proposals for contracts.
