Job summary

Magna Seating in Michigan is seeking a Controls Technologist to design, develop and commission PLC-based control systems, support on-site start-up, and validate electrical and functional test equipment.

You will maintain HMI graphics, collaborate with IT on SCADA, work with robotics and safety systems, and contribute to robust electrical control system design. A bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5+ years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic or similar Engineering degree/diploma/certificate preferred.
• Trades Certification with significant work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and install new PLC based control systems, on-site commissioning and start-up support.
• Maintain and modify HMI displays and graphics across systems (e.g., Citec, FactoryTalk, RS Studio).
• Provide technical competence during project execution of Electrical and Function Test equipment.
• Monitor hardware/software interface quality and suggest improvements for reliability.
• Troubleshoot PLC issues and implement corrective actions.
• Produce and update documents including specifications, schematics, and instructions.
• Conduct machine functionality and fault recovery testing during startup and commissioning.
• Collaborate with IT to optimize SCADA communications (e.g., cimplicity).
• Work with robotic equipment (Fanuc, UR) and safety systems (Safety PLCs, light curtains).
• Assist with electrical control system design documentation.
