Job summary

Frontier-Kemper, a Tutor Perini Company, seeks a Controls Engineer to join our Evansville, Indiana team. You will support design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of control equipment for mining and heavy civil projects.

The role focuses on PLC/HMI development, power distribution design, and hoist control systems while collaborating with vendors and internal teams. Travel to project sites is required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Advanced degree preferred.
• Experience with PLC programming and HMI development.
• Experience developing hoist control systems is strongly preferred.
• Willingness to travel to project sites.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, drives, and related software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as engineer on mid-size and large projects.
• Manage multiple projects with a team of engineers and designers.
• Design and implement control systems for hoists and vertical belts.
• Design job site power distribution for tunnel boring machines, belt systems, and hoists.
• Develop PLC programs and HMI applications.
• Commission hoists, vertical belts, and skip loading systems at sites.
• Collaborate with vendors to specify and procure components.
• Review designs for fit, function, and accuracy.
• Ensure designs meet customer requirements and internal standards.
• Test and troubleshoot control systems at the on-site UL panel shop.
• Travel intermittently to project sites for commissioning.
