Job summary

Scale is seeking a Controls Engineer to join the product engineering team and help design, build, and commission microgrids. You will report to the CTO and work a hybrid schedule from our offices in Oakland, Santa Monica, Ridgewood, or NYC.

Responsibilities include PLC-based control design, hardware troubleshooting, documentation, site-level microgrid networks, safety, and cybersecurity collaboration. Requires 5+ years in control loops and related experience, with a BS in Electrical Engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 4+ years of experience or equivalent.
• Strong experience with PLC programming, controls engineering and automation systems.
• Experience with distributed energy resources (batteries, solar, gensets, switchgear).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and program PLC-based electrical control systems.
• Specify, purchase, and troubleshoot control hardware and instrumentation.
• Read and develop control system design documents (FDS, User Manual, reports).
• Troubleshoot control systems to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
• Design and manage site-level microgrid networks and security.
• Perform risk assessments and implement safety measures.
• Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and vendors to resolve issues.
