Job summary

Scale is seeking a Controls Engineer to join our product engineering team to design, build, and commission microgrids. You will develop PLC-based control systems, specify and troubleshoot hardware, and create design documents to support reliable field deployments. You will report to the CTO, and collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams in a hybrid work arrangement across multiple U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years in control loop design and PLC programming.
• Experience with distributed energy resources (DERs) such as batteries, solar, generators, and switchgear.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ladder logic debugging abilities.
• Excellent collaboration with clients, internal teams, and external vendors.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and program PLC-based control systems.
• Specify, purchase, and troubleshoot control system hardware and instrumentation.
• Read, understand, and develop control system design documents (Functional Specifications, User Manuals, and reports).
• Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
• Design and manage site-level microgrid networks and security.
• Perform risk assessments and implement safety measures for safe operation.
• Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to resolve system issues.
• Support cybersecurity efforts to ensure secure and reliable controls.
• Learn Scale microgrid controls and tailor them for each project.
