Job summary

ProMach invites energetic engineering students to join its 2027 Summer Internship Program as a Controls Engineer Intern in Indiana. You will work with experienced engineers on design, development, and implementation of control systems for innovative packaging machinery.

This hands-on internship offers exposure to industrial automation, hands-on testing, and opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects while developing technical and professional skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completed degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or Computer Engineering.
• Familiarity with PLCs (Rockwell or Siemens) and HMI concepts.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong problem-solving and verbal/written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, programming, testing, and commissioning of PLC and HMI systems.
• Support integration of sensors, actuators, drives, and other control components.
• Troubleshoot and debug electrical and control systems on automated machinery.
• Create/update electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; document technical work.
• Collaborate on system upgrades, customer projects, and new product development.

What You’ll Do

As a Controls Engineer Intern, You Will

• Assist in the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems
• Support the integration of sensors, actuators, drives, and other control system components
• Participate in troubleshooting and debugging electrical and control systems on automated machinery
• Create and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
• Collaborate with Controls Engineers on system upgrades, customer projects, and new product development initiatives
• Conduct research, testing, and analysis to improve machine performance and control system functionality
• Support equipment validation activities and system testing efforts
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards

Who We’re Looking For

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• Basic understanding of PLC programming platforms such as Rockwell Automation or Siemens
• Familiarity with HMI development and industrial automation concepts
• Exposure to electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel design principles
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
• Previous experience with manufacturing, robotics, automation, or industrial controls is a plus
