Job summary

ProMach's 2027 Summer Internship Program invites you to join our team in Huntington, IN, for a Mechanical Engineer Intern role. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to support design, development, and improvement of packaging machinery and automation equipment.

This hands-on internship provides exposure to CAD, design reviews, prototyping, testing, and documentation, while developing technical, professional, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to learn quickly.
• Able to interpret technical drawings per ASME/ISO.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design of mechanical components and assemblies for packaging equipment.
• Create and modify 2D/3D CAD models and drawings.
• Support machine layouts and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Participate in design reviews to improve performance and manufacturability.
• Assist prototyping, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Document engineering work and maintain BOMs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing and project management.
• Follow safety and quality policies.

This internship provides hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment and the opportunity to apply engineering principles to real-world projects while developing technical, professional, and problem-solving skills.

What You’ll Do

As a Mechanical Engineer Intern, You Will

• Assist with the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for packaging equipment
• Create and modify 2D and 3D CAD models, drawings, and engineering documentation
• Support the development of machine layouts, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings
• Participate in design reviews and collaborate with engineers to improve machine performance, reliability, and manufacturability
• Assist with prototyping, testing, validation, and troubleshooting activities
• Conduct research and analysis to support product improvements and new product development initiatives
• Help maintain engineering documentation, bills of materials, and technical specifications
• Support cross-functional teams including manufacturing, controls engineering, and project management
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards

Who We're Looking For

• Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline at an accredited university
• Strong ability to learn new concepts, technologies, and processes in a fast-paced environment
• Familiarity with AutoCAD 2D and 3D; experience with Autodesk Inventor is a plus
• Basic understanding of mechanical design principles, machine components, and mechanical systems
• Exposure to 3D modeling and simulation tools such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks
• Ability to interpret and create technical drawings and specifications in accordance with industry standards such as ASME and ISO
• Foundational knowledge of engineering materials and common manufacturing processes
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify design issues and opportunities for improvement
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong problem-solving abilities and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and technologies
• Ability to analyze information, identify solutions, and make sound decisions
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across teams
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Results-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
