Job summary

Building Controls and Services, Inc. (BCS) in Lenexa, KS is seeking a Controls Engineer Intern to assist the controls team with design, installation, and commissioning of building automation and HVAC systems.

The intern will update project data, prepare submittals, and support startup and turnover activities. The role emphasizes learning and applying automation concepts, blueprints, AutoCAD standards, and Windows-based tools, while communicating effectively with customers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of automation systems, HVAC and electrical concepts.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Proficient in AutoCAD drafting standards.
• Proficient in using Windows OS for workstation and server applications.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Valid driver license.
• Preferred: Minimum one year of experience in engineering systems and/or systems service.

Responsibilities

• Update project information and layouts using given software to meet sales intent of the project.
• Generate RFIs and incorporate information from blueprints and specifications into submittals.
• Assist with sales estimating and pricing changes; determine task durations and stay under budget.
• Assist with startup, certification and project turnover; install devices/controls on projects as required.
• Provide customer service and technical assistance to build and maintain relationships.
