Job summary

Danfoss in Tallahassee, FL is seeking a Controls Engineering Intern to gain hands-on experience supporting manufacturing operations and improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.

You'll work 20 hours per week, develop SOPs and PFMEA, create layouts with CAD, and collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and implement solutions in a safe, productive environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
• Junior or senior standing preferred.
• Ability to analyze data and apply structured problem-solving.
• Strong MS Office skills, especially Excel.
• Effective written and verbal communication and teamwork.

The Impact You'll Make

As a Controls Engineering Intern, you’ll gain hands‑on experience supporting manufacturing operations while helping improve the processes that drive safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance. This is an opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge to real‑world challenges and see the direct impact of your work.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Support manufacturing and process improvement projects by analyzing workflows, material handling methods, and production processes to improve operational performance.
• Collect and evaluate operational data using statistical analysis, observations, and time studies to help establish efficient work standards and identify improvement opportunities.
• Create and update process documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) documents.
• Develop equipment, workspace, and facility layouts using 2D/3D CAD tools to improve productivity, workflow, and space utilization.
• Partner with engineering and operations teams to troubleshoot issues, recommend solutions, and support project execution while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

What We're Looking For

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with junior or senior standing preferred.
• Ability to analyze data, apply mathematical and statistical concepts, and use structured problem‑solving methods to improve processes.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and other business productivity tools.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering and operations teams.
• Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and perform activities that may include standing, walking, and occasionally lifting materials within a manufacturing environment.
