Job summary

Unknown Partner in the United States is seeking a Controls Engineer III to design, develop, and implement advanced industrial control systems. You will combine automation, programming, engineering, and troubleshooting to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient systems.

Work with engineers, technicians, project managers, and customers from design through commissioning. Travel approximately 50-75% with regular overnight assignments; remote work is available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years in control systems, automation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Strong understanding of control theory, automation, and low-voltage controls.
  • Hands-on experience with major industrial controls platforms (PLC, HMI, DCS, SCADA).
  • Experience with CAD software and engineering tools.
  • Excellent English communication, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement industrial control systems and automation solutions.
  • Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, DCS, and SCADA systems.
  • Develop control algorithms using Ladder Logic and Function Block Diagram.
  • Test, validate, and ensure performance, safety, and quality.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Controls Engineer III based in United States.
This role offers the opportunity to design, develop, and implement advanced industrial control systems across a range of applications.
You will combine automation, programming, engineering, and troubleshooting expertise to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient systems.
Working alongside engineers, technicians, project managers, and customers, you will contribute to projects from design through commissioning.
The position provides exposure to diverse industrial environments and complex technical challenges.
You will play a hands-on role in PLC, HMI, control architecture, testing, startup, and system optimization.
With a strong emphasis on safety and continuous learning, the role offers significant opportunities for technical and professional growth.
The position is remote but requires approximately 50-75% travel, including regular overnight and out-of-town assignments.
Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and implement industrial control systems, including network architectures, cause-and-effect diagrams, control philosophies, and complete automation solutions.
  • Apply control theory, automation principles, programming, and critical-thinking skills to develop efficient, reliable, and safe systems.
  • Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, DCS platforms, SCADA systems, and other industrial control equipment.
  • Develop control algorithms and software using graphical programming languages such as Ladder Logic and Function Block Diagram (FBD).
  • Test and validate control systems against performance, safety, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Diagnose control system issues, troubleshoot technical problems, and implement solutions that improve reliability and performance.
  • Install, configure, test, and commission control software and systems at customer sites, working closely with clients and technical specialists.
  • Evaluate system performance and identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, minimize downtime, and optimize operations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, project managers, customers, and other stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Maintain a strong personal commitment to safety and ensure control systems and field activities follow appropriate safety protocols and procedures.
  • Travel regularly for project work, startup, commissioning, customer support, and other field assignments.
Requirements
  • 4+ years of experience in control systems, automation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong understanding of control theory, industrial automation, programming, and low-voltage controls.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more major industrial controls platforms, such as Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PLC5, SLC500, FactoryTalk, or RSView.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as GE RX3i/RX7i, Siemens S7/TIA/WinCC, Schneider Modicon, DeltaV, Wonderware, ArchestrA, System Platform, OPC Systems SCADA, or comparable PLC, HMI, DCS, and SCADA technologies.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience using CAD software and other engineering or technical tools.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Previous experience in industries such as semiconductor, oil and gas, utilities, agriculture, metals, mining, paper, data centers, healthcare, or food and beverage is advantageous.
  • Experience with pipeline and/or oil and gas processing is a plus.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and willingness to contribute to a safety-focused culture.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including approximately 50-75% travel and regular overnight assignments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Valid driver’s license and a maintainable good driving record.
  • Ability to pass required background checks, drug and alcohol screening, and fit-for-duty examinations where applicable.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa support.
