Job summary

Barry‑Wehmiller Design Group in Austin, TX seeks a Controls Engineer II to join our Control System Integration Practice. You will work with industry experts to deliver high-quality control solutions, including PLC/SCADA programming, design, testing, and commissioning for diverse manufacturing clients.

Expect collaboration with clients, vendors, and internal teams, with significant travel to regional projects.

Qualifications

Proven track record in control systems, troubleshooting, and high-intensity environments.
3–8 years direct experience as a controls engineer in automated processes/system integration within manufacturing environments.
Experience designing automation control systems (PLC, SCADA).
Knowledge of UL508A panel design and fabrication.
Understanding of instrumentation and controls (I&C).
Experience with P&IDs, process flow diagrams, SOPs.
Experience with field instrumentation, installation, and configuration.
Familiarity with machine safety, electrical power distribution, and control panel design.
Strong written and verbal technical communication; ability to present findings.

Responsibilities

Develop automation solutions and participate in design, configuration, testing, commissioning and start-up of automated manufacturing processes.
Design automation control systems and create project documentation and drawings.
Diagnose automation problems.
Interface with teams, clients and vendors.
Configure software and hardware per client specs.
Program PLCs and HMI/SCADA systems.
Communicate progress to stakeholders.
Manage engineering projects and deliverables to schedule and scope.
Oversee site construction, installation and start-up support.
Validate and commission facility systems and turnover to customers.
Contribute to client relationships through effective execution.
