Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of controls/automation engineering experience.
  • Experience with conveyor, sortation, material handling, or robotics.
  • Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of machine safety standards, electrical codes, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop controls solutions for material handling equipment, including conveyors and robotics.
  • Create electrical schematics, control panel layouts, device drawings, and specs.
  • Develop and troubleshoot PLC programming using Allen-Bradley platforms.
  • Define and document machine sequences of operation and system functionality.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop new products and improve designs.
  • Ensure products meet manufacturing capabilities, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Conduct prototype development, validation testing, and performance verification.
  • Support onsite commissioning and beta testing to ensure safety, reliability, and performance goals.
  • Investigate field issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain project schedules, engineering documentation, and cost estimates.
  • Follow engineering standards, version control, and safety requirements.
  • Participate in machine risk assessments and ensure compliance with electrical and safety codes.

Job description

Our client is seeking a Controls Engineer II to support the development and enhancement of automation products used in material handling applications. This role is responsible for designing control systems, developing PLC programs, creating electrical schematics, and supporting product development from concept through field implementation.

The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial automation, conveyor and sortation equipment, or robotics, and be comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and field teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop controls solutions for material handling equipment, including conveyors, sortation systems, automated storage, fulfillment, and robotics applications.
  • Create electrical schematics, control panel layouts, device drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Develop and troubleshoot PLC programming using Allen-Bradley platforms.
  • Define and document machine sequences of operation and system functionality.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop new products and improve existing designs.
  • Ensure products align with manufacturing capabilities, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Conduct prototype development, validation testing, and performance verification.
  • Support onsite commissioning and beta testing to ensure safety, reliability, and performance objectives are met.
  • Investigate field issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with conveyor systems, sortation equipment, material handling systems, or robotics.
  • Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software.
  • Working knowledge of machine safety standards, electrical codes, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with industrial automation systems, HMI development, and SCADA platforms.
  • Familiarity with automated warehouse, distribution center, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting product development and new technology implementation.

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and work safely around moving mechanical equipment.
