Job summary

Dynavac is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer I to join our Engineering team in Hingham, MA. You will lead the design, development, and implementation of control systems for advanced manufacturing equipment, including thin‑film deposition and vacuum systems.

This role requires hands-on engineering, collaboration with cross‑functional teams, and the ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3-7 years of hands-on experience in controls engineering or industrial automation.
  • Strong experience with PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, and system integration.
  • Experience working with industrial equipment, sensors, instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues in field environments.
  • Experience supporting FAT and SAT with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process functional design specifications detailing control strategy and sequence of operations.
  • Lead controls engineering efforts across full project lifecycle: design, programming, testing, and commissioning.
  • Document controls engineering design including functionality, operating requirements, and safety considerations.
  • Perform system integration including I/O checkout, validation, and performance testing.
  • Maintain and organize software backups from production or customer facilities.
  • Perform FAT/SAT with customers to meet expectations.
  • On-site upgrades to existing systems at customer facilities.
  • Generate redline documentation and implement corrective actions.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer I to join our Engineering team. The ideal candidateleads the design, development, and implementation of control systems for advanced manufacturing equipment, including thin film deposition, thermal vacuum, and custom vacuum systems

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Develop process functional design specifications that detail control strategy and sequence of operations
  • Lead controls engineering efforts across full project lifecycle, including design, programming, testing, and commissioning
  • Document controls engineering design including functionality, operational requirements, safety considerations, and operating procedures
  • Perform system integration including I/O checkout, system validation, and performance testing
  • Maintain and organize software backups from systems either in production or at customer facilities
  • Perform Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT) with customers to meet their expectations.
  • Perform on‑site upgrades to existing systems at customer facilities
  • Generate redline documentation and implement corrective action for system issues and design improvements.
  • Support customer problems remotely (diagnostics and upgrade implementation)
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & SKILLS

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues in field environments
  • Experience supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) with customers

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standard office environmentwith occasional travel to customer sites for evaluations

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role is split between office‑based engineering work and hands‑on activities in a manufacturing environment (approximately 50% office / 50% production floor).

Responsibilities include working on and around industrial equipment, performing system testing and integration, and supporting equipment commissioning.

The role requires the ability to:

  • Stand, walk, and work on a manufacturing floor for extended periods
  • Use standard tools and interact with electrical/mechanical systems
  • Travel domestically as required
