Job summary

Barry‑Wehmiller Design Group seeks a seasoned Controls Engineer to join our team. You will work with a multi‑discipline group to design, test, and commission automation solutions for food, beverage and industrial manufacturing clients.

You will lead in PLC/HMI/SCADA development, wiring practices, documentation, and safety standards while coordinating with clients and vendors. You are a hands‑on engineer with at least three years in control systems, able to travel for site work and start‑ups, and

Qualifications

A minimum of 3 years of direct experience as a controls engineer in industrial manufacturing.
Proficient in control systems troubleshooting and high‑intensity environments.
Experience designing automation controls (PLC, HMI, SCADA).
Strong understanding of UL508A industrial panel design and fabrication.
Solid grasp of instrumentation and controls (I&C).
Experience with P&IDs, process flow diagrams, SOPs and engineering docs.
Experience with field instrumentation, installation, and configuration.
Familiarity with machine safety applications and power distribution.
Excellent written and verbal technical communication; able to present to groups.
Willingness to travel for installation, start-up, and client meetings; engineering degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop automation solutions and participate in design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of equipment.
Design automation control systems and create project documentation and drawings.
Diagnose automation problems and provide effective fixes.
Interface with teams, clients and vendors to align on specs and milestones.
Configure software and hardware packages per client design specs.
Program PLCs (Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell) and HMI/SCADA (FactoryTalk, Cimplicity, Ignition, etc.).
Communicate project progress to stakeholders and manage engineering tasks.
Manage project deliverables to agreed schedule and scope.
Oversee site construction, installation, and start‑up activities.
Validate and commission facility systems and ensure turnover to customer.
Contribute to team development and client relationships through day‑to‑day excellence.
