Job summary

Engtal is partnering with a Dayton-area manufacturer to add a Controls Engineer to their growing team. The role focuses on designing, programming, and testing industrial controls for custom equipment across multiple sectors.

You will work on PLC/HMI systems, CAD documentation, and integration of motors, drives, and sensors. You’ll engage with engineering, manufacturing, and field teams to deliver projects from concept through startup, with limited travel and opportunities for leadership as you

Qualifications

Experience with industrial controls, automation, or automated manufacturing equipment.
Experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs (Allen-Bradley preferred).
Ability to troubleshoot industrial electrical and controls systems, including I/O, motors, drives, sensors, and related hardware.
Ability to read and work from electrical schematics and controls documentation.
Experience supporting equipment through debug, testing, startup, or commissioning.
Strong hands-on problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt between projects and changing priorities.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams.

Responsibilities

Program, develop, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems, primarily using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell platforms.
Support projects from initial engineering through internal machine build, testing, debug, and final runoff.
Develop and modify electrical controls designs, schematics, and documentation using established CAD standards and templates.
Customize existing controls architectures and programs around each customer's equipment and application.
Integrate motors, VFDs, servo systems, instrumentation, sensors, and other industrial control components.
Troubleshoot electrical, controls, networking, and equipment issues throughout the build and testing process.
Work closely with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, applications, and field service teams throughout each project.
Communicate directly with customers to understand requirements, resolve technical questions, and support successful project delivery.
Provide remote technical support after equipment installation, with occasional onsite support when necessary.
