Job summary

BorgWarner seeks a Controls Engineer to design and implement electrical and control systems for manufacturing operations. You will draft layouts for robots, controllers, and wiring, and improve plant automation through troubleshooting and programming of data interfaces.

The role collaborates with a matrix of engineering teams and requires hands-on work with Siemens PLCs, HMIs, and vision systems. Travel up to 5% is possible.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required.
  • Experience with Siemens PLC/HMI and robotics is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and control systems essential.

Job description

A Controls Engineer performs a vital role in designing and developing systems for manufacturing operations. They may design layout, materials and information flow, or machine placement. Additionally, a Control Engineer can be responsible for increasing production efficiency by evaluating performance and proposing and implementing improvements. The Control Engineer works within the Drivetrain Systems All Wheel Drive Engineering matrixed organization in collaboration with the Engineering Manager.Key Roles & Responsibilities:To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Standard Duties :Design electrical and control systems for industrial automation systemsDesigns and drafts diagrams of cable connection for robots, robot end-of-arm tool, robot controller, and other machines.Designs and drafts arrangement of linkage of conductors, relays, and other components of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication devices.Install, troubleshoot, and repair controls, instruments, equipment and systems for new commercial, domestic, and industrial uses including electrical/pneumatic issues.Program and configure plant floor data interfaces (traceability)Diagrams logic system for functions such as sequence and timing control.Lead support for vision inspection systemsWrite work instructions for Controls processes including program, PLCs, automation, etc.Support developing robust Process Control Plan for production.Collaborates with other functional groups to illustrate and describe installation and maintenance details such as where bearings should be lubricated, types of lubrication, and which parts are lubricated automatically and manually.Confers with equipment manufacturers to resolve problems regarding building of controls systems.Reviews schematics with customer's representatives to answer questions during installation of robot systems.Observes gauges during trial run of programmed machine and equipment operation to verify that electrical signals in system conform to specifications.Designs controls for energy conversion or other industrial plant monitoring systems.Troubleshoots electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.Leads others in the fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and determines methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products.Performs tasks to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge/SkillsSuperb computer literacy, including Windows/Microsoft based software applications and AutoCad skills.Results-oriented, with strong organizational and project management skillsMust have a proficient understanding of electrical theory and be able to navigate schematics.Additional Information:Travel is occasionally required, up to 5% of the time.Safety and Physical Requirements:All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding and complying with the safety policies and procedures.Wear PPE when appropriate in designated campus areas.Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. on occasion.Key Competencies:SafetyInitiativeJudgement/Decision MakingTeamwork/Interpersonal SkillsAttendanceEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Engineering and Computer and Electrical Engineering0 - 2 years experience in controls engineering, programming, robotics, etc.Intermediate experience in Siemens PLC & HMI programming/troubleshootingKuka Robot experienceTorque screw driversExperience in Keyence Vision systemsExperience with AutoCAD (electrical design)Familiarity with safety standards for industrial equipment (OSHA, NFPA, etc)Knowledge of electrical and mechanical manufacturing processesHigh level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.-Internal Use Only: SalaryGlobal Terms of Use and Privacy StatementCarefully read the BorgWarner Privacy Policy before using this website.
