Job description

At BWI, we are seeking a Controls Engineer for our Warren, MI plant.

Job Duties:

  1. Support the maintenance department by assisting in troubleshooting equipment issues, including troubleshooting PLC ladder logic and data handling functions in Control Logix processors.
  2. Maintain PLC documentation received from equipment suppliers and archive PLC programs and machine controls drawings in electronic and/or paper formats throughout the facility.
  3. Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve automated equipment, including devices, I/O, instruments, and other components related to automated processes to meet production and safety goals.
  4. Support various I/O devices connected to PLCs, including HMIs, scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, solenoids, servo drives, etc., and assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting pneumatic circuits.
  5. Enhance equipment uptime and contribute to plant reliability maintenance.
  6. Schedule and perform backups of all electronic machine control and robotic programs regularly, and develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs.
  7. Diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems.
  8. Apply electronic and instrumentation principles to identify equipment malfunctions and restore equipment to operational status.
  9. Implement and maintain data collection systems from plant floor processing equipment and identify error-proofing requirements throughout the production process.
  10. Participate as part of a multi-disciplinary plant team to develop continuous improvement strategies.
  11. Identify and plan for process impacts resulting from engineering and launch changes.
  12. Participate in root-cause analysis and problem-solving tasks, such as 8D, to address abnormalities and resolve root causes.
  13. Contribute to the development of specifications for equipment purchases, including reviewing and commenting on equipment control drawings prior to approval.

Required Experience:

  1. Degree in Engineering or Electrical field preferred, or equivalent additional experience.
  2. 5-7 years of related controls engineering experience in manufacturing; automotive experience preferred.
  3. Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs is essential.
