Controls Engineer

Purpose of the Position

As part of the Varitec Controls and Service Solutions LLC team, expectations are that you will be a team player that puts the companies’ internal and external customers first. This position will be responsible for the Design of Controls products while providing top-tier customer service for all internal and external customers. While the emphasis is on the Siemens product you will be working with Niagara, Open+ and many others as well. In order to perform your tasks, you will utilize your knowledge of HVAC Systems, control devices, computer operations, electronics, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, direct digital controls, airflow, hydronic systems, IT networking, analytics and building controls technologies. This position will have an emphasis on Construction and creating accurate and timely designs for our customers in the market.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as a representative of VCSS, primarily in person or on the telephone, displaying courtesy, tact, professionalism and discretion in all interactions with fellow employees and the company’s clientele.
  • Work as a team with our Operations Team to fulfill customer needs with courtesy and in a timely manner.
  • Timely response to all customer requests, internal/external.
  • HVAC Control systems knowledge as it is related to mechanical, electrical, and low voltage controls components.
  • Ability to design all Controls work with no supervision/assistance, at a high level of quality, with budgeted time in mind.
  • Being able to take
  • Mentoring Technicians and other Controls Engineers in all facets of Project Design.
  • Following all safety standards and attends/completes required safety training. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety always.
  • Keeping management and project management informed of job progress and any foreseen or possible issues that might arise.
  • Following and managing processes and procedures in a timely manner, without the need to be reminded; Example: Email, Teams, Procore, Auto Cad, BlueBeam, Bidtracer, Project Folder Management, labor logs and personal expense submission.
Competency and Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the construction industry or related experience.
  • Ability to use Windows applications primarily Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to use Auto Cad, Visio, BlueBeam and other similar products as needed.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration machinery, tools and their application.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret written instructions and construction project documents as they apply to aforementioned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to make judgments after analysis of available information and respond with a timely decision.
  • Ability to plan work and sequence priorities.
  • Ability to speak articulately one-on-one or to small groups.
  • Ability to compose articulate and grammatically correct written communication.
  • Ability to perform under difficult conditions, such as simultaneous deadlines.
  • Ability to handle conflict.
Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities for this position.

Education and Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar field or combination of education and experience.
  • Other technical experience such as military, on the job training programs, etc. may meet this requirement as determined by local management.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain OSHA safety training, along with managing a safe workforce and safety policies.
Work Environment
  • This position may require working in extremely hot or cold weather conditions. Furthermore, there may be noisy or potentially hazardous conditions that require the use of PPE.
  • There may be occasional local travel to customer sites to perform the duties of this position. In addition, occasional overnight travel may be required for distant customer sites. Also, from time to time, overnight travel may be required for training at various manufacturers, generally lasting anywhere from 2 to 5 days.
Physical Demands
  • Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.
  • Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites.
  • Be able to climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day on a construction site.
  • Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.
  • Be able to drive for extended periods of time.
