Job summary

Adient's Foamech site seeks a Controls Engineer to develop, maintain and improve automation control systems for automotive seating production. You’ll work with PLCs (Allen-Bradley/ControlLogix), HMI, data handling and preventive maintenance to maximize uptime and safety.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of manufacturing controls experience, AC/DC wiring methods, AutoCAD proficiency, and a strong problem-solving mindset in a fast-paced plant environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering/electrical field preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of controls engineering/manufacturing experience; automotive JIT experience preferred.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs; strong PLC troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with electrical control voltage and wiring methods.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and PLC ladder logic and data handling in Control Logix processors.
  • Maintain PLC documentation and archive PLC programs and drawings.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and improve automated equipment to meet production/safety goals.
  • Support I/O devices connected to PLCs including HMIs, sensors, relays and servo drives; assist with pneumatic circuit troubleshooting.
  • Improve equipment uptime and contribute to plant reliability maintenance.
  • Schedule and complete backups of machine control/robotic programs; develop preventive maintenance programs.
  • Diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical/electronic systems.
  • Implement and maintain data collection from plant floor equipment; identify error-proofing requirements.
  • Be part of a multi-disciplinary plant team to determine continuous improvement strategies.
  • Identify and plan for process impact due to engineering/launch changes.
  • Participate in root-cause problem solving (8D or similar) to resolve abnormalities.
  • Contribute to equipment purchase specifications and review controls drawings.

Summary

Develop, maintain and improve automation control systems integral to the production process of the manufacture and assembly of automotive seating, JIT or automotive experience is highly preferred.

Job Duties
  • The Controls Engineer will Support the maintenance department by assisting in the troubleshootingof equipment issues, which includes troubleshootingPLCladder logic and data handling functions in Control Logix processors.

  • MaintainPLCdocumentation upon receipt from equipment suppliers and an archive ofPLCprograms and machine controls drawings in an electronic and/or paper format and throughout facility.

  • Maintain,troubleshoot, repair and improve automated equipment including devices, I/O, instruments and all other components associate with automated processes to meet production and safety goals.

  • Support various I/O devices connected toPLC’s including HMI’s, scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, solenoids, servo drives, etc., and support/assist maintenance personnel introubleshootingpneumatic circuits.

  • Improve equipment uptime and contribute to Plant reliability maintenance.

  • Schedule and complete backups of all electronic machine control and robotic programs on set schedule and develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance Programs.

  • Ability to diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems.

  • Apply knowledge of electronic and instrumentation principles to determine equipment malfunctions and apply skills in restoring equipment to operation.

  • Implement and maintain data collection system from Plant floor processing equipment. Identify and implement error-proofing requirements throughout the production process.

  • Part of multi-disciplinary Plant Team to determine continuous improvement strategies.

  • Identify and plan for process impact(s) as a result of engineering and launch changes.

  • Participate in 8D or similar root-cause based problem solving tasks to ensure that abnormalities, when observed, are acted upon to resolve root-causes.

  • Contribute to specifications for equipment purchases, which include review and commentary on equipment controls drawings prior to build approval.

Required Experience
  • Degree in Engineering/Electrical field preferred, or equivalent additional experience

  • 3-5 years related Controls Engineering manufacturing experience; automotive JIT experience preferred

  • Allen Bradley PLC’s experience is a must. Strong PLC Trouble-Shooting with some Programmable skills

  • Working Knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Proficient with Electrical Control Voltage & Wiring Methods
