Job summary

Adient seeks a Controls Engineer to optimize and maintain advanced control systems in its automotive seating production. You will troubleshoot PLCs, update programs, and support automation including HMIs, sensors, and servo drives.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or electrical field or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years manufacturing controls engineering; automotive JIT preferred.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and PLC troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc robotics and automation.
  • AutoCAD knowledge a plus; wiring and control voltage familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot PLC ladder logic and ControlLogix processors.
  • Maintain and update PLC programs and machine drawings.
  • Support automated systems such as HMIs, sensors, and servo drives.
  • Collaborate with maintenance to improve uptime.
  • Back up machine control and robotic programs.
  • Diagnose hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical subsystems.
  • Contribute to data collection and quality improvement.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and CI initiatives.
  • Review control designs for new equipment purchases.

Are you passionate about automation, problem-solving, and driving innovation in manufacturing? We’re looking for a Controls Engineer to help us optimize and maintain the advanced control systems that keep our automotive seating production running smoothly.

In this hands-on role, you’ll be a key player in improving equipment reliability, supporting continuous improvement, and collaborating across teams to deliver high-quality products in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues, including PLC ladder logic and ControlLogix processors.
  • Maintain and update PLC programs, documentation, and machine control drawings.
  • Support and enhance automated systems—HMIs, sensors, I/O devices, servo drives, scanners, and more.
  • Partner with maintenance teams to improve uptime and reliability.
  • Perform backups of machine control and robotic programs.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems integrated with electrical controls.
  • Engineer error-proofing and data collection systems to improve quality and visibility.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review and advise on control system designs for new equipment purchases.
What You Bring
  • Degree in Engineering/Electrical field preferred, or equivalent additional experience
  • 3+ years related Controls Engineering experience inside manufacturing; automotive JIT experience preferred. Flexible for someone early in career with internship/co-ops.
  • Allen Bradley PLC's experience is a must. Strong PLC Trouble-Shooting with some programmable skills
  • Strong Fanuc Robotics & Automation preferred
  • Working Knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus
  • Proficient with Electrical Control Voltage & Wiring Methods is a plus
