Job summary

Foamech Adient is seeking a Controls Engineer to develop, maintain and improve automation systems for automotive seating production. You will troubleshoot PLCs, back up programs, and support maintenance with hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical interfaces.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in controls engineering in manufacturing, experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, and proficiency in AutoCAD and wiring methods. Join a global leader and help optimize plant reliability and safety.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering/Electrical field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of controls engineering manufacturing experience; automotive JIT preferred.
  • Strong PLC troubleshooting and programming skills with Allen-Bradley equipment.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and electrical wiring practices.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot PLC ladder logic and data handling in ControlLogix for production lines.
  • Maintain PLC documentation and archive programs and drawings.
  • Repair and improve automated equipment to meet production and safety goals.
  • Support I/O devices, HMIs, scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, and servo drives; assist pneumatic troubleshooting.
  • Improve equipment uptime and contribute to plant reliability.
  • Back up machine control and robotic programs; develop preventive maintenance plans.
  • Diagnose hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical issues interfacing with electrical systems.
  • Apply instruments knowledge to identify malfunctions and restore operation.
  • Implement data collection from plant floor equipment and error-proofing measures.
  • Participate in 8D and root-cause problem solving; support continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to equipment purchase specs and review control drawings before builds.

Summary Develop, maintain and improve automation control systems integral to the production process of the manufacture and assembly of automotive seating, JIT or automotive experience is highly preferred.

Job Duties
  • The Controls Engineer will Support the maintenance department by assisting in the troubleshooting of equipment issues, which includes troubleshooting PLC ladder logic and data handling functions in Control Logix processors.
  • Maintain PLC documentation upon receipt from equipment suppliers and an archive of PLC programs and machine controls drawings in an electronic and/or paper format and throughout facility.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and improve automated equipment including devices, I/O, instruments and all other components associate with automated processes to meet production and safety goals.
  • Support various I/O devices connected to PLC’s including HMI’s, scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, solenoids, servo drives, etc., and support/assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting pneumatic circuits.
  • Improve equipment uptime and contribute to Plant reliability maintenance.
  • Schedule and complete backups of all electronic machine control and robotic programs on set schedule and develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance Programs.
  • Ability to diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems.
  • Apply knowledge of electronic and instrumentation principles to determine equipment malfunctions and apply skills in restoring equipment to operation.
  • Implement and maintain data collection system from Plant floor processing equipment.
  • Identify and implement error-proofing requirements throughout the production process.
  • Part of multi-disciplinary Plant Team to determine continuous improvement strategies.
  • Identify and plan for process impact(s) as a result of engineering and launch changes.
  • Participate in 8D or similar root-cause based problem solving tasks to ensure that abnormalities, when observed, are acted upon to resolve root-causes.
  • Contribute to specifications for equipment purchases, which include review and commentary on equipment controls drawings prior to build approval.
Required Experience
  • Degree in Engineering/Electrical field preferred, or equivalent additional experience.
  • 3-5 years related Controls Engineering manufacturing experience; automotive JIT experience preferred.
  • Allen Bradley PLC's experience is a must.
  • Strong PLC Trouble-Shooting with some Programmable skills.
  • Working Knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with Electrical Control Voltage & Wiring Methods.
