Saige Partners seeks a Controls Engineer to develop and program industrial automation systems in a manufacturing setting. You will troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, sensors, and drives while improving equipment reliability and throughput.
Responsibilities include designing, coding, and modifying control systems; supporting integration of robotics with production processes; and maintaining documentation and electrical schematics for ongoing upgrades.
The Controls Engineer is responsible for developing, programming, troubleshooting, and improving industrial automation and control systems used in a manufacturing environment. This role supports production equipment, robotics, material handling, welding, assembly, presses, conveyors, vision systems, and other automated processes. The Controls Engineer works closely with maintenance, manufacturing, and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability, safety, quality, throughput, and overall production performance.
Design, develop, program, troubleshoot, and modify industrial control systems.
Develop and maintain PLC programs, HMI applications, and machine control systems.
Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robots, sensors, drives, motion-control systems, and other automation components.
Support the integration of robotics and automated equipment with existing manufacturing processes.
Develop controls solutions for welding, material handling, presses, conveyors, assembly equipment, and other production systems.
Support robotic programming, diagnostics, and integration activities.
Develop and modify HMI screens, operator interfaces, alarms, diagnostics, and control sequences.
Analyze equipment and process issues and implement effective controls-based solutions.
Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment and automation problems.
Support equipment startup, commissioning, debugging, and production launch activities.
Assist with installation and integration of new automated equipment and production systems.
Review and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, blueprints, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
Develop and maintain electrical and controls documentation, schematics, software backups, and equipment records.
Work with maintenance personnel to diagnose and resolve complex controls and automation issues.
Identify opportunities to improve cycle time, equipment reliability, process capability, and overall system performance.
Support continuous improvement projects involving automation, controls, robotics, and manufacturing processes.
Assist with safety-related control systems, machine safeguarding, and robotic safety applications.
Ensure controls and automation systems comply with applicable electrical, safety, and industry standards.
Provide technical support and training to maintenance and production personnel when needed.
Maintain organized documentation of PLC programs, HMI applications, system changes, and equipment configurations.
Use computer-based engineering, programming, and maintenance software as required.
Participate in project planning, equipment upgrades, and new technology implementation.
Perform other engineering and automation-related duties as assigned.
