Job summary

Carlex Glass America is seeking an experienced automation engineer to support production by programming PLCs and robots, troubleshooting controls, and optimizing line performance at the Ligonier facility. You will design PLC software, touch up robot programs, and help develop preventative maintenance plans across multiple plant sites.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of PLC/robot experience, with Siemens S7 knowledge and a strong background in electrical schematics, networking, and vision

Qualifications

• BSEE or BSME degree is required.
• 3–5 years programming and troubleshooting PLCs and robots.
• 1–3 years Siemens S7 programming experience is a plus.
• Regular attendance and safety compliance mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Support production by troubleshooting and programming plant automation equipment.
• Program and design PLC controls; touch up robot points.
• Travel to sister plants for core job functions.
• Maintain schedules for multiple plant projects.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans for plant equipment.
• Collaborate to improve cycle times and quality detection systems.
• Train plant techs and engineers on controls-related skills.
• Create and correct plant electrical drawings and quoting models.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Support production by troubleshooting and programming existing and new plant automation equipment
• Program and design new and existing PLC controls
• Travel to sister plants as needed for completion of core job functions.
• Maintain accurate and consistent schedules for projects and tasks for multiple plant projects.
• Programming of robots and touching up points as needed to support production needs.
• Working with production and process to optimize line flow, cycle time issues and quality concerns through changes in programming or troubleshooting of controls.
• Program and design new and existing PLC controls.
• Help plan preventative maintenance plans for equipment in the plant both new and current.
• Work to help develop new technology for the plant to utilize in efforts to improve cycle times and quality detection / prevention systems.
• Help train plant techs and engineers on controls related skills.
• Create and correct plant electrical drawings for equipment.
• Work with plant teams to help develop accurate quoting models

KEY COMPETENCIES

• Advanced/Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, and PowerPointExcellent Analytical Skills
• Ability to use RS Net Worx software, RS View Studio and Panel Builder software
• Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting and read electrical prints
• Ability to wire industrial control systems including 480V/120V/24V power, drives, motors, I/O and sensors
• Ability to design, diagnose, and troubleshoot vision applications
• Ability to connect to PLC and navigate programming software
• Hands-on approach to problem solving and analysis.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

• BSEE or BSME Degree required

Years of Experience:

• 3 – 5 Years of experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs and Robots
• 1-3 Years of Siemens S7 programming experience a plus

Other Requirements:

• Regular and predictable attendance required
• High level of understanding of Fanuc Robots and ABB robot operations
• Demonstrated understanding of Ethernet cabling and addressing, Device Net, RIO, and wireless PC networking
• Understanding of basic concepts of MMIs, familiar with PanelView Plus and PanelView hardware
• Demonstrated understanding of Cognex In-Sight software
• Demonstrated knowledge of ladder logic programming, PLC 5, SLC500, ControlLogix, MicroLogix, RIO, Ethernet I/P, DeviceNet
• Demonstrated understanding of AC and DC motors and servo systems
• Working knowledge of Kinetix, Ultra3000, PowerFlex, 1305 and 1338 drives
• Valid driver’s license required for business travel
• Work beyond the traditional 40 hours per week may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays
