Job summary

Harvard Group International is seeking a Controls Engineer to support development, integration, testing, and deployment of control systems for a new aeroderivative gas turbine platform. You will translate system requirements into software specifications and develop PLC-based control software and logic across electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation interfaces.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on controls engineering experience.
  • Experience developing PLC-based control software and logic for complex engineered systems.
  • Ability translate system requirements into software specifications.
  • Experience integrating controls with electrical hardware, instrumentation, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting control systems.
  • Ability to own controls development from requirements through deployment.
  • Strong documentation and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Ability to work with external partners and field resources.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC-based control software, control logic, sequencing, interlocks, alarms, and protective functions.
  • Translate system and equipment requirements into clear controls and software specifications.
  • Integrate control software with electrical hardware, instrumentation, sensors, actuators, and mechanical systems.
  • Develop and execute rigorous controls testing and validation prior to deployment.
  • Support control strategies involving fuel control, speed governing, temperature limiting, and protective shutdown logic.
  • Support commissioning, controls tuning, and troubleshooting of new and operating units.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across software, hardware, instrumentation, and system interfaces.
  • Develop technical documentation and partner across engineering disciplines, suppliers, and field resources to support program objectives.
  • You bring 5+ years of hands-on controls engineering experience developing PLC-based control software and logic for complex engineered systems.

Job description

The Controls Engineer will support the development, integration, testing, and deployment of control systems for a new aeroderivative gas turbine platform within a rapidly growing engineering organization. Working alongside Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, Test, Manufacturing, and external technical partners, this individual will translate system requirements into software specifications, develop PLC-based control software and logic, integrate controls with hardware and instrumentation, and support validation, commissioning, and field troubleshooting. This role offers a unique opportunity to help build internal controls capability while supporting both new product development and the future operating fleet. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced development environment where technical ownership, disciplined testing, and hands-on problem solving are critical to success.

A meaningful compensation package will be developed for the successful candidate that includes a base salary plus performance-based bonus.
