Job summary

Magna Powertrain is looking for an engineer to plan and execute technical projects for new and existing powertrain products. You will manage customer relationships, coordinate with suppliers, and ensure cost, quality and timing targets are met.

The role requires collaboration with multi-functional teams on design, testing and manufacturing, with flexibility to support production schedules as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field with automotive experience.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interface with staff, vendors, and customers.
• Experience with plant start-ups and major product launches is highly preferred.
• Proficient in project tracking, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint.
• Willingness to work extended hours during launches as needed.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots equipment on the manufacturing floor to support production (CNC & PLC).
• Develops electrical specs for assembly lines, test stands, and robotics.
• Programs device controls including PLCs, robotics, and CNC controls.
• Interfaces with engineers to spec, quote, purchase, debug, and install systems.
• Collaborates with management on processes and control devices across operations.
• Defines investment plans and estimates costs for new plant processes.
• Applies problem solving methods (8D, DOE, mistake-proofing) for improvements.
• Maintains familiarity with IATF/ISO certification processes.

Scope of Position

Plans and executes technical projects for new and existing products and develops program schedule. Maintains strong customer engineering relationships with dedication to customer program schedules. Works with suppliers in understanding and administering customer and governmental product requirements / specifications. Ensures costs, quality, timing, and other related aspects of project targets are met. Participates in continuous improvement efforts. Researches, recommends, and implements enhancements to products, processes, technology, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field with a minimum of 3 years working in a high-volume automotive Tier 1 or Tier 2 environment.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to interface effectively with corporate staff, vendors, customers, and employees.
• Experience with plant start-ups and major product launches is highly preferred.
• Strong proficiency in project tracking, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work extended hours during project launches as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots equipment on the manufacturing shop floor as necessary to support production (CNC Machine & PLC Controls).
• Develops electrical specifications for custom engineered equipment such as assembly lines, test stands, automated material handling, conveyance devices, and robotics
• Must be proficient at programming all types of computer controlled devices commonly used in manufacturing processes (programmable controllers, robotics, "C", visual basic, CNC controls).
• Interface with other engineers to spec, quote, purchase, debug, run off, install, train operators, train skilled trades personnel and work with manufacturers of assembly and test systems, fixed and flexible automation systems used in high volume automotive manufacturing.
• Confers with management, engineering, maintenance, and other staff regarding manufacturing processes and specifically control devices used throughout the manufacturing operation.
• Develops specifications for machine tool controls, interfacing of various types machinery, develops specifications for data retrieval from various machinery used throughout the manufacturing process which produce Powertrain products.
• Develops control systems specifically focused toward the testing and data collection of Powertrain products
• Defines investment plans for future product designs, estimates costs for new plant processes (controls).
• Utilizes problem solving techniques (8D, design of experiments, mistake proofing) Initiates, recommends or provides solutions through designated channels.
• Possesses a working knowledge of IATF and/or ISO process of certification.
• Capable of interfacing with product engineers to turn test specifications into machine controls and data collection for Powertrain products.
• Although this is a day shift position, the successful candidate must be flexible to work any shift as needed to support production requirements.
• Other duties as may be assigned by the Department Manager or designate.v
