Job summary

Employbridge is seeking a Controls Engineer II to join our growing automation team. The role supports custom machine projects, leading initiatives from concept through commissioning while working with PLCs, HMIs, hydraulics, pneumatics and sensors.

You will design, troubleshoot, and optimize control systems, manage startup and commissioning, and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and customers. This hybrid role is based in Grand Ledge, MI with travel and some remote options.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years of controls or automation engineering experience.
• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial automation systems.
• Knowledge of safety PLCs, ISO 13849, EtherNet/IP, and Modbus.
• Familiarity with NEC and NFPA 79 standards.
• Strong troubleshooting and commissioning skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop PLC and HMI programs using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 and Siemens TIA Portal.
• Design and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Integrate sensors, VFDs, servos, vision systems, and safety controls.
• Lead machine startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and debugging.
• Manage projects and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, project managers, and customers.
• Create operator and maintenance documentation.

• Grand Ledge, MI (preferred)
• Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite
• Springfield, OH or Newaygo, MI considered for the right candidate
• Approximately 25% travel
• $80,000 - $100,000 DOE
• Straight-time overtime paid after 45 hours per week
