Controls Engineer - Fenton, MO

Position Title: Controls Engineer

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.

Experience: Five or more years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering. Proficiency with PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, robotic programming, and industrial communication networks is required.

Location: Fenton, MO.

Job Type: Full-Time.

Shift: 1st shift - Monday thru Friday

Remote: No. On-site in Fenton, MO.

Salary: Commensurate with experience: $85K+, plus benefits.

Position Summary

The Controls Engineer designs, programs, and supports industrial automation and control systems. This role is responsible for developing automation solutions, troubleshooting control systems, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Essential Job Duties

The Control System Engineer is responsible for development of the technical aspects of assigned projects. This may include:

  • Assist in feasibility studies and development of cost estimation
  • System architecture design (PLC/HMI/DCS, I/O, networks, computer infrastructure)
  • Electrical control panel design and schematics
  • Instrumentation specification
  • PLC program development and implementation
  • Robotic programming and support
  • HMI/SCADA application development and screen design
  • Design and develop PLC, HMI/SCADA, and industrial control systems.
  • Program and support PLCs, HMIs, and robotic systems.
  • Design control system architecture, electrical schematics, and control panels.
  • Specify and integrate instrumentation and industrial networks.
  • Design, build, maintain, and improve automated assembly and test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system and automation issues.
  • Assist with project planning, feasibility studies, and cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Stay current on emerging automation technologies and industry best practices.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure projects meet scope, budget, and schedule expectations.

Communicate effectively with project manager throughout the project lifecycle, keeping them informed of progress, risks, and costs.

Maintain expertise in industry trends and vendor/partner offerings to recommend solutions aligned with business needs.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred, but not required. Willing to substitute applicable work experience in place of degree.

Required Experience
  • 5+ years of applicable work experience.
  • Strong understanding of process control principles, PLC programming, Robotic programming, HMI/SCADA development, and industrial network communication protocols.
  • Experience with electrical control systems design and schematics development (a plus).
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex control systems and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple project priorities effectively.
  • Desire to learn and adapt to new technologies and industry trends.
Pay Details

$85,000.00 to $100,000.00 per year
