Job summary

LVI Associates in Kansas City, KS is seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of automation and control systems across the full project lifecycle, from concept through commissioning.

You will design system architecture (PLC, HMI, DCS, I/O), develop electrical panel drawings, program PLCs (Rockwell preferred), and build HMI/SCADA apps (FactoryTalk, Ignition). Travel to client sites is expected about 20–25%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming and SCADA/HMI systems.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols and control system design.

Responsibilities

  • Support feasibility studies and assist with cost estimation.
  • Define system requirements based on client specifications.
  • Design system architecture (PLC, HMI, DCS, I/O, and network infrastructure).
  • Develop electrical control panel designs and schematics.
  • Specify instrumentation and control components.
  • Program and implement PLC systems (Rockwell preferred).
  • Develop HMI/SCADA applications (FactoryTalk, Wonderware, Ignition, etc.).
  • Support historian and data analytics solutions.
  • Lead or assist with system startup and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with project teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, and costs to internal stakeholders.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Travel to client sites for project execution (approx. 20-25%).

Role Overview

The Controls Engineer will support the design, development, and implementation of automation and control systems. This role involves working across the full project lifecycle, including design, programming, testing, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
