Job summary

OpTalent partners with a large, highly automated manufacturing and distribution operation in McDonough, GA to recruit an experienced Automation Technician. This role focuses on troubleshooting complex electrical, PLC, robotic, and material-handling systems in a 24/7 environment.

You will collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering and Operations to improve reliability, uptime and throughput while ensuring safety and adherence to LOTO procedures.

Qualifications

  • 5–7+ years of industrial maintenance experience with a focus on automation and controls.
  • Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and industrial electrical systems up to 480V.
  • Experience with robotics, automated material handling, conveyors or similar automated equipment.
  • Ability to read schematics, ladder logic, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems up to 480V, including motors, drives, transformers, control panels.
  • Diagnose Allen-Bradley PLC-controlled equipment and industrial control systems.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, sensors and networked controls.
  • Maintain robotic systems, automated sortation, conveyors, AMRs and packaging equipment.
  • Read electrical schematics, ladder logic, P&IDs and mechanical drawings.
  • Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on automated equipment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve uptime, throughput, reliability and OEE.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations and vendors to resolve complex issues.
  • Mentor others and promote safety with proper LOTO procedures.

About the Opportunity

OpTalent is partnering with a large, highly automated manufacturing and distribution operation in McDonough, GA to recruit an experienced Automation Technician.

This is a hands-on technical role for an experienced automation professional who can troubleshoot complex electrical, PLC, robotic, controls and material-handling systems in a high-volume 24/7 operation.

You will serve as a technical resource for complex equipment issues while working closely with Maintenance, Engineering and Operations to improve equipment reliability, uptime and throughput.

What You’ll Do
  • Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems up to 480V, including motors, drives, transformers, control panels and power distribution.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLC-controlled equipment and industrial control systems.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, sensors, encoders and networked controls.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain robotic systems, automated sortation, conveyors, AMRs and automated packaging equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, P&IDs and mechanical drawings.
  • Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on automated equipment.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions for recurring equipment failures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment uptime, throughput, reliability and OEE.
  • Support equipment installations, upgrades and engineering projects.
  • Work with Engineering, Operations, vendors and other technical teams to resolve complex issues.
  • Mentor and support other maintenance technicians with troubleshooting and technical best practices.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, including proper LOTO and electrical safety procedures.
  • Provide support during occasional after-hours and weekend requirements.
What We’re Looking For
  • 5–7+ years of industrial maintenance experience, with a strong focus on automation and controls.
  • Strong hands‑on experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Industrial electrical experience, including systems up to 480V.
  • Experience with robotics, automated material handling, conveyors or other highly automated equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic and technical documentation.
  • Experience with VFDs, servo systems, HMIs, sensors and industrial controls.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation or a related field is preferred.
