Qualifications

Controls Technician

Who: A driven, hands-on Controls Technician with strong industrial automation, electrical troubleshooting, and PLC programming experience.

What: Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize PLC-based automation, HMI, vision, electrical control, and industrial networking systems supporting manufacturing operations.

When: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM–4:30 PM, with overtime as required.

Where: A fast-paced manufacturing facility supporting automated production equipment and advanced manufacturing technologies.

Position Overview

We are seeking a driven and results-oriented Controls Technician to support and improve automation systems within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position is ideal for a hands-on technical professional who enjoys troubleshooting industrial control systems, optimizing equipment performance, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

Working closely with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production, you will support PLC-based automation systems, HMIs, industrial networks, electrical controls, and computer vision technologies. Your work will directly contribute to improved equipment reliability, manufacturing efficiency, operator safety, and product quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC-based automation systems supporting manufacturing operations.

  • Develop, modify, and optimize PLC control logic, including ladder logic, tags, HMIs, and networked control systems.

  • Support Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation platforms and related industrial control technologies.

  • Assist with commissioning, startup, and integration of new equipment, production lines, and automation improvements.

  • Troubleshoot electrical, PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, sensor, safety control, and industrial communication issues.

  • Perform root cause analysis on equipment and controls failures and implement corrective actions to reduce recurring downtime.

  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities for automated production equipment.

  • Integrate and maintain computer vision inspection systems used for automated inspection, process verification, and error-proofing.

  • Interface vision technologies with PLCs, HMIs, and manufacturing equipment.

  • Support robotics, sensing, industrial connectivity, and other emerging manufacturing automation technologies.

  • Develop controls improvements that enhance safety, quality, throughput, equipment reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.

  • Use production data and operational metrics to identify opportunities for process improvement and waste reduction.

  • Maintain electrical schematics, control system documentation, PLC program backups, and operating procedures.

  • Provide technical support and training to Maintenance, Engineering, and Production personnel.

  • Ensure automation and controls activities comply with applicable electrical, machine safety, quality, and facility requirements.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Proficiency in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and industrial automation systems.

  • Strong electrical and controls troubleshooting skills within a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong root cause analysis and technical problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel documentation.

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment integration, quality systems, and continuous improvement principles.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations.

  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.

Preferred Experience
  • Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation PLCs and controls.

  • HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, industrial sensors, and machine safety controls.

  • Ethernet/IP and other industrial communication networks.

  • Computer vision systems and PLC-integrated inspection applications.

  • Robotics programming, commissioning, and system integration.

  • Kepware, OPC, or similar industrial connectivity platforms.

  • Manufacturing digital transformation, production monitoring, and data collection systems.
