Job summary

Atlas Copco in Voorheesville, NY is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer (PLC/SCADA) to develop and deliver project-specific PLC and HMI programs for turbomachinery systems.

You will report to the Process and Controls Engineering Team Leader and collaborate with the Global Engineering Center, supporting FAT and commissioning to ensure accurate designs meet requirements. A strong AB/Rockwell background is required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience with PLC/HMI hardware and programming (or equivalent hands‑on experience).
• Strong experience with Allen Bradley / Rockwell PLC systems (non‑negotiable).
• Deep understanding of process control theory and electrical/control systems (non‑negotiable).
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control logic (preferred).
• Experience with Siemens or Modicon systems and turbomachinery/process industries (preferred).

Your role

As a Controls & Automation Engineer (PLC / SCADA), your mission is to develop and deliver project-specific PLC and HMI programs for turbomachinery systems—ensuring accuracy, functionality, and alignment with customer and engineering requirements. You will report to the Process and Controls Engineering Team Leader.

You will

• Develop, review, and modify PLC and HMI programs for compressor packages and auxiliary systems
• Interpret project specifications, process diagrams, and control narratives to ensure accurate program design and execution
• Coordinate with the Global Engineering Center and internal teams to ensure programming aligns with latest revisions and project requirements
• Support system testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and commissioning by troubleshooting and refining control programs
• Collaborate with engineering, field service, and shop teams to deliver projects on time with minimal errors

To succeed, you will need

You have 2+ years of experience with PLC/HMI hardware and programming (or equivalent hands‑on experience)

• Strong experience with Allen Bradley / Rockwell PLC systems (non‑negotiable)
• Deep understanding of process control theory and electrical/control systems (non‑negotiable)
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control logic (preferred)
• Experience with Siemens or Modicon systems and turbomachinery/process industries (preferred)
